The 2026 TSPDT Poll

The 2026 TSPDT Poll
February 27, 2026
(Bill Georgaris)

Welcome. It's playtime again.

Following a half-decade hiatus,
They Shoot Pictures, Don't They? once again invites you to select your favourite films of all-time. Not necessarily what you consider the 'best' or 'greatest' films, but your own personal favourites—though I suspect that, more often than not, the two are indistinguishable.

There are no restrictions on the films you may choose. This poll seeks to celebrate the moving image in all its forms—spanning every language, length, and aesthetic.

You will have the opportunity to make between 10 and 100 selections (in the
2021 poll, the maximum allowed was 25). While a minimum of 10 films is mandatory, anything beyond that is entirely up to you. Please do not feel obliged to reach the 100-film limit; any number of selections is welcome, provided you meet the minimum. For the record, the opportunity to select up to 100 films was also the ballot structure of 2024's Beyond the Sight & Sound Canon poll.

Each selection will receive one point. There is no need to rank them.

The selection boxes (Film 1 to Film 100) are populated with over 46,000 titles. Simply type the film's title or director, then choose your selection from the dropdown menu.

Should a film you wish to select be unavailable via the dropdown (remembering that you can search by director as well), you may enter it manually into the comments field at the bottom of the form. To ensure your selection is recorded accurately, please provide the film's title, director, and year, along with its
IMDb 'tt' ID* or a relevant linkLetterboxd, for example, lists many films that IMDb doesn't.

Please note that manual entries are included in your 100-film limit. For instance, if you select 95 films via the dropdown menus and five manually into the comments field, your list is complete. However, any manual additions that exceed the 100-film maximum will not be counted.

The comments field is also for you to make, um, comments. Please do so; it is encouraged.

Can I select a trilogy or multi-part film? Yes. You have two ways to do this:

Option 1: Individual Entries (recommended). Use the Film 1–100 boxes for each part of a series. This ensures each film receives one full point and allows you the flexibility to vote only for specific instalments.
Option 2: Composite Entries. Alternatively, list the entire series as a single entry in the comments field. Note that the single point will be diluted across all parts (e.g., each film in a trilogy would receive only 0.33 points).

Okay then, here are some important tips:

Please ensure your email address is entered correctly. After submitting your ballot, you will receive a confirmation email (please check your spam or junk folder if it does not appear in your inbox^). You must follow the link in that email to confirm your submission. If you do not confirm, your ballot will not be included.

Also, please take care with your selections, as you may only submit your ballot once. The confirmation email will display all of your selections (so that you can double-check your ballot^), along with any comments you submitted.

You have plenty of time to consider your choices.
This poll will remain open until May 31, 2026**, with results to be published here thereafter.

Strictly only one submission per person is allowed; please do not be naughty.

If you have any questions (or experience any technical difficulties), please
email me.

I would like to extend a very warm thank you to everyone who assisted in testing the form below and also the confirmation process; your feedback has been invaluable.

Resource:
All 46,000+ films available via the dropdown menu can be viewed in this Excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet contains IMDb's Primary Title and Original Title for every film, alongside TSPDT's title (which is the one used in the dropdown menu).

View the results of the 2021 poll (1,005 Film Favourites).

*The IMDb 'tt' ID is the ID found in the URL of every IMDb film page, e.g. https://www.imdb.com/title/
tt0091225/. It is officially labelled as 'tconst' within IMDb's database.
^Should you require assistance—for instance, if you discover an error in your submitted ballot, or if you do not receive the confirmation email—please let me know. We will sort it out.
**The poll will officially close at 10.30 pm on June 1, 2026 (Australian Central Daylight Time - ACDT) to ensure all global time zones are included in the May 31 deadline.

If you are adding films not available in the dropdown menu, please use the format: Title (Director, Year). Also, where possible, please include the IMDb 'tt' ID or a relevant link for each film you add. Of course, you are also welcome to leave feedback on the poll or any comments regarding your ballot.
